Friday Nights Climb

Friday Justin and his friend Ryan Schlehuber went over to Momentum Indoor rock climbing and had a blast. So we thought the girls could go over Friday night too and join them. Niki, thanks for watching them all day on Friday. I owe you.

We were joined by the Dvorak's down the street, Tiffany said that it had been 6 years since she's climbed, it looked like 2 days and Niki and Ryan Schlehuber.

Pizza and beer afterwards was awarded to all, well except the kids.

Carry on.

a few more pics from this weekend

Just a few of the waterfalls and a few of the little rock climbs we had to encounter on the Sulpher Creek Route in Capitol Reef National Park.

If you ever get the chance to go, you must do the Sulpher Creek Route, it's not a trail per the National Park Service, don't know why but maybe because of the difficulty and climbing that you have to do. If the water level was normal, we would have had to waded in about 3 feet of water in some parts a family was telling us.

Enjoy

Our little mini get away

Last Thursday Sue and I took off with a hiking group out of Salt Lake City down to Capitol Reef National Park to do some hiking and some camping.

We had a great time, the weather was perfect. Not too hot, not too cold.

We got about 15 miles of hiking in, with the best hike on Saturday. It was the Sulfur Creek Route in Capitol Reef. It consisted of approx 7-8 miles of trails meandering in and out of the creek with 3 waterfalls that we had to climb down to continue on the trail. Sue obviously has no problems as she loves climbing and jumping over rocks, but yours truly doesn't really appreciate heights so it was something that I overcame with time and each waterfall that we encountered. The largest drop was approx 10 feet with the last remaining waterfall being approx 8 feet down but to get down that it didn't require climbing but sitting on your butt in the water and sliding down the fall to reach the pool of water. Pictures of this will be later as I didn't take the good camera but the disposable camera and it's in getting developed.

Enjoy the other pictures, Capitol Reef is a beautiful park that's not crowded at all.

The drive down and back was beautiful that took you thru small Utah towns with some great scenery.

On to our next adventure........

80's Party

Saturday night brought Ann O'Brien's annual traditional 80's party back to Gavin Circle after a 2 year hiatus. A good time was had by all, especially since Leo/Jenna her next door neighbors couldn't get their daughter to sleep (allegedly) because of the noise, so at midnight the cops were called and the party came to a quiet stop.

As for the noise, yes, it was there, but not overly loud. Not like being awoken at 6:00 a.m. with Leo's landscape workers moving big boulders in to their back yard. I tried reasoning with Leo to no avail. He chose to get the law involved.

It reminds me of when Sue and I lived back in Crystal Lake and one of the first block parties was way out of control (reason being a keg that a few of us went in on) and needless to say ,we were ALL loud, well, our neighbors thought it would be funny to list our house, For Sale By Neighbors. ahhh, the good ole days.

Sue's Birthday Party

Yesterday was Sue's Birthday party. Why you ask do you have a party on a "not so special" year of parties? Well, Jodi Saeland from Fox 13 News came over to do the weather and when I originally emailed her asking to host one of the BBQ's that she goes out to weekly, she asked me what the special occasion was, so I chose Sue's Birthday.

We ended up having over 50 people show up. Lee had the Margarita machine going, thanks Lee for helping out. Mark and Jarrett took over the grill from me once Jodi arrived, thanks Mark and Jarrett for taking that task on. Thanks for everyone cleaning up once the News was done. It's sure appreciated.

Our one special guest didn't make it :( I had emailed Todd Herzog, the Survivor China winner, he just lives down the road about 15 minutes, I had asked if there was a way he could make an appearance, he responded to me yes, about 2 hours before the party was to begin, he emailed me asking for the time, I responded and thought for sure he would have shown up, but nope, didn't make it :( One day we'll get to meet as you all know what kind of Survivor fans we are.

Needless to say, it was a great time even for a Tuesday evening party. Thanks for all the showed up and celebrated with us and hope you all had a great time.

Where is Summer?

I know it's only June 7-8th but please, give us some warm weather (i know I'll be saying differently come July). We had planned on going up to Tanners Flat camping but the cold weather kept us away so we decided to make the best of it with a little campfire outside. Had plenty of neighbors, the Howarth's, Campbells and the O'Brien kids all sitting around making 'mallow's and s'mores.

The fire was burning bright till about Midnight when we all decided to call it a night.

Travis and Justin headed to Snowbird Sunday morning to get a ride in on the mountain then over to River Bend Golf Course for a rematch with Mark Mullins, I guess Mark got the best of Travis (this time anyway) so i'm sure another rematch will be imminent.

Sue's Birthday is this Tuesday, we'll definitely have plenty of pictures then as we have Fox 13 Weather person Jodi Saeland coming out to our home to do the weather Tuesday Night. We're planning on about 30 people showing up so if you're one of them, see you Tuesday for the BBQ.

Was this the last day of May and the First of June?

What a gorgeous weekend we just had. Weather was perfect. Started out the weekend with Justin's Lacrosse games, they had a double header, two wins was the outcome. Now, this Tuesday is the final LAX game for the season and a season ending party on Thursday.

Saturday night headed out with the Howarth's to Indiana Jones movie. First time we've seen any of the series, good movie, sometimes a little corny, but from what I hear, that's normal. After the movie, headed over to Asian Star for some dinner, 2 firsts for the Meihls this weekend, nice place the Asian Star was. It's always better when you have a great waitress, which we did.

Sunday morning, Sue and I headed to church, after church, we bolted back home to get her ski's and Justin who was going to snowboard with her. Ali tagged along and while Sue and Justin hit the slopes, Ali and I had some bonding time (she was texting mostly) at breakfast at the Forklift Lodge up at Snowbird. Afterwards, headed back home to get the swim suits on to head to the Draper pool, yes, skiing and swimming in the same day :)

Sunday night turned into a BBQ at the Howarth's backyard, needless to say, we always have a good time at their BBQ's.

This next week looks like a busy one. Can't wait!!

Stay tuned.
